I purchased: CleverLite Walker Model#10243 My husband was recovering from a 9- hour long spine operation (they had to go in from the front AND the back!), and he was supposed to walk as much as possible for better recuperation. However, he has a very bad left hip joint which is slated for replacement. Thus, walking was excruciatingly painful.
Searching online for a walker that would permit him to take the weight off his left hip without twisting his freshly operated and now aligned, but still fragile spine, I soon found the CleverLite walker (Model #10243) which looked like it could fulfill all these requirements.
Ignoring his resistance to get yet "another" walker (he had a generic, aluminum frame, 2" wheel/tennisball one)I ordered the CleverLite with EIGHT inch wheels.
It arrived very promptly, assembled, ready to go. It looked beautiful and sturdy. I rolled it over to my sitting husband, who inspected it skeptically. I told him that I can send it back if he did not like it, but he MUST try it first. I locked the brakes, he held on to the hand rests, got up and made a few steps. Suddenly, he turned around with a triumphant expression of discovery on his face and exclaimed, "This is a Cadillac!!"
He had not been out of the house for a month, and it felt so good to see him enjoy our California sunshine again on our first walk together. He relished being able to sit down on the fold-down seat any time, anywhere. I have lifted the CleverLite in and out of the car many times, and found it not too heavy for all its sturdiness. It is supereasy to fold and open up. The $143.- I spend on it were the best dollars I ever spent!
When choosing the CleverLite, I looked specifically for the inverted U-frame which allows the user to place full weight on the frame, similarly to using crutches. I was worried that just using crutches would make moving around dangerous for my husband because of his fragile spine while it healed.
Another extremely important feature are the 8" large wheels, which roll really well over uneven surfaces.
Having this wonderful walking aid has made a big difference in my husbands mood and attitude. With hip replacement surgery looming in a few months, my husband will make even more use of his CleverLite and dread recovery less. We are both grateful to MEDEX for providing such good and necessary service.
